Firmdale buys back Dorset Square Hotel

LONDON The 37-key boutique property that launched Firmdale Hotels 25 years ago is back in Tim and Kit Kemp’s portfolio.

Firmdale sold Dorset Square Hotel eight years ago but has reacquired London property after it recently fell into administration. Firmdale has closed the hotel for a major renovation, with a reopening slated for late in the year.

“Kit is currently working on the interior design, and it will look very different from the country house style during their previous ownership,” Craig Markham, Firmdale’s director of marketing, tells The Financial. “The new design will show how her style has evolved in recent years and will be more in line with some of our other hotels, such as the Haymarket.”

Firmdale now has seven hotels in London and one in New York City, and it is developing another London property—a mixed-use project with 90 guestrooms, 24 apartments and 12 retail outlets in Soho that is scheduled to open in 2013.
