Extended Stay America upgrades membership program

Extended Stay America, the mid-priced extended stay hotel brand, has upgraded its Extended Perks membership program.

The enhanced program will build on existing benefits, like the Immediate Registration Discount, where members will get an instant 10% discount which they can use when booking their next stay.

Upgraded benefits include:

  • Exclusive rate for members
  • Free early check-in and late check-out (for guests staying for seven or more nights)
  • Monthly member drawings

The main focus of the new program is the Exclusive Member Rate, which will be available to new members of the membership program as well the existing members.

Members can also avail of free membership and discounts beyond Extended Stay America properties, including numerous local and national brands, like restaurants, theme parks, rental cars, online and retail shopping and more.

Unlike traditional points-based programs, there are no points to collect and no level or tiers to reach in the Extended Perks program.

There are more perks for guests staying for seven or more nights, with access to free early check-in and late check-out (at participating hotels, based on availability).

“As the leader in the extended stay category, we built Extended Perks to be different than other hotel membership programs, allowing us to cater to the needs of the extended stay guest,” said Greg Juceam, president and CEO. “We are proud to continue building on the program to include an exclusive member rate as well as new offerings for our guests who stay seven or more nights. The simplicity of the program allows members to redeem discounts and savings; not only on hotel stays, but on thousands of national and local brands they use each and every day.”

Unlike traditional points-based programs, there are no points to collect and no level or tiers to reach in the Extended Perks program.

Beyond the perks, members are automatically eligible for monthly drawings for an opportunity to win gift cards and other prizes. Guests receive an entry for each night they spend at a participating property the previous month. Participating in surveys can also help guests earn rewards.

“Extended Stay America is uniquely positioned to cater to guests who stay for one week or more, and these enhancements to our Extended Perks program give us the chance to reward these guests even further,” said Kelly Poling, executive VP and chief commercial & brand officer.

One of the leading budget extended stay hotel brands, Extended Stay America currently has more than 760 hotels in the U.S. Founded in 1997, the company was acquired by Blackstone and Starwood Capital Group in 2021 for $6 billion.

Although traditional hotels struggled through the pandemic, the extended-stay segment outperformed all other segments. According to a recent study, 883 hotels opened in the U.S. in 2020, of which 29% were extended-stay properties. The extended stay inventory grew by 10.3%.

Taking note of this, hotels have been launching brands catering to the demand for extended stays. Earlier this week, Hyatt debuted Hyatt Studios, an extended-stay brand in the upper-midscale segment. Wyndham has launched ECHO Suites by Wyndham, while BWH introduced @Home by Best Western. Recognizing the success of its Residence Inn by Marriott brand, Marriott 2022 said it planned to add a serviced apartments brand in the U.S. and Canada.
