European rate up from 2010, down from July

Rate at European hotels dropped in August from the previous month but are still up year-on-year, new findings from the trivago Hotel Price Index reveal.

Across the continent rate was down 3% in August compared to July, but at 39 of the index’s top 50 cities August’s rate was up 5% year-on-year, with several up more than 10% or 20% from 2010.

The largest gains in average rate from 2010 were Venice, Italy, which was 45% higher along with Geneva at 26%, Frankfurt, Germany at 25% and Milan, Italy at 24%. Of the cities surveyed, the only one with a significant year-on-year decrease was Sofia, Bulgaria.
