Does opulence still sell? Four Seasons answers

Opulence is not dead, and Four Seasons can prove it. Executive Vice President of Marketing Susan Helstab told HOTELS several jetsetters have already reserved their seats for its recently announced “Around the World by Private Jet” promotion – a 22-day trip around the world, while staying exclusively at Four Seasons hotels and resort for a listed price of US$66,950 per person for double occupancy.

“Although we have only recently announced the trip, we are excited to report that several eager travelers have already reserved their seats,” Helstab said. “In addition, we’ve also received many queries regarding future trips from guests who are unable to join us in 2012, indicating there is strong interest in the offering.”

Departing from Los Angeles, the itinerary features Hawaii, French Polynesia, Australia, Bali, Indonesia, Thailand, India, Egypt and the U.K. Chances to customize the experience (by adding private tours, spa treatments, tee times and more) are available as travelers will have access to a Four Seasons concierge at every moment of the trip, even while in the air.

So why such an extravagant offering at such as austere time? Helstab said Four Seasons partner in this venture, TCS & Starquest Expeditions, recognized that its clients are devoted Four Seasons fans and approached the company about creating a seamless Four Seasons experience.

“More and more, our guests are looking for once in a lifetime experiences that leave indelible memories,” Helstab said. “Our research reflects a growing demand for truly authentic experiences that allow guests to sample the local culture whether they’re visiting an urban destination or a far-flung retreat. To them, a rich life is measured not by personal possessions, but by the memories collected over time. The opportunity to offer our guests the chance to circumnavigate the globe with our partner, TCS & Starquest Expeditions was a natural fit.”

The difficult part about pulling such a promotion together was narrowing down the stops, according to Helstab. Its most iconic properties were chosen and with TCS they carefully planned a route that incorporates these properties and also offers a diverse range of destinations from bustling urban centers to some of the world’s wonders.
