CORRECTION: Shenyang hotel fire damages Dynasty Wanxin, not Sheraton

SHENYANG, CHINA A major hotel fire in Shenyang on Thursday heavily damaged the 5-star Dynasty Wanxin Hotel, but the adjacent Sheraton Shenyang Lido Hotel went unscathed by the blaze, contrary to a previous report.

No casualties were reported.

The fire broke out just after midnight Thursday at an adjacent apartment building and quickly spread to the hotel. The blaze lasted for about four hours before being controlled. The full extent of the damage is not yet known, but reports from the scene describe the building as “gutted.”

According to an account of the blaze by wire service Xinhua, personnel from the Sheraton were evacuated. However, a spokesman for the Sheraton tells HOTELS that this did not occur and that the hotel remains fully operational.

HOTELS regrets the error.
