citizenM keeps getting bigger. The tech-forward hotel brand has opened its largest ever hotel in Boston, marking its second location in the city.
The 15-story citizenM Boston Back Bay stands in the city’s historic Back Bay neighborhood, steps away from the Fenway Park and Newbury Street, and offers 399 signature rooms, with the brand’s signature features and spaces. The hotel is part of the mixed-use development, Lyrik.
“The Back Bay neighborhood is a historic area, featuring delicious eateries and bustling small businesses — we are excited to become part of this community and the Lyrik development. With our curated selection of artwork, rooftop bar and this prime location, citizenM Boston Back Bay will be the go-to spot for vibrant offerings and stunning city views,” said Robin Chadha, chief brand officer, citizenM.
Designed by citizenM’s long-term architecture partner, concrete Amsterdam, local architecture companies Elkus Manfredi has also worked on the property.
Inside the hotel, guests can access the brand’s signature amenities, including a living room, canteen serving snacks and drinks and a gym with panoramic views of Newbury Street. The hotel also has a rooftop, which will be outsourced to a partner and open in early 2025.
Aiming to offer “affordable luxury,” the guestrooms feature wall-to-wall XL king-size beds, 4K televisions with streaming options, rain showers and full-size bath essentials. Room ambiance can be controlled by an in-room iPad or through the citizenM app.
Showcasing Boston’s art, the hotel team has commissioned a piece for the entrance façade from Maria Molteni.
As part of the brand’s ‘citizen of the world’ series, where citizenM showcases eight citizens, citizenM Boston Back Bay celebrates eight citizens from the Back Bay area as well as the greater Boston neighborhood through a photography exhibition. Those part of the Boston Back Bay campaign include Kimberly Flynn (director of marketing at Trident Booksellers), David Littlefield (founder of The Sausage Guy), Vivian Luo (performer and electric violinist), BREK.ONE (official DJ at Boston Celtics), Doug Ansine (founder of Brainchild), Porsha Olayiwola (poet laureate), Frank “The Butcher” Rivera (streetwear and sneaker designer) and muralist Rixy.
The hotel opening is part of citizenM’s expansion strategy in the U.S. and beyond, which aims to introduce the lifestyle brand to travelers on-the-go. citizenM Boston Back Bay becomes the 36th property to join the brand portfolio and follows citizenM’s debut in Austin in March and the brand’s third property in Miami.
