Mexico’s first Vignette Collection: IHG has signed with owner Grupo Alves the El Gran Encomendero, a new Vignette Collection hotel in the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. The 83-key hotel marks IHG’s first Luxury & Lifestyle Collection brand in Mexico as well as the Americas. Expected to begin construction in early 2023, El Gran Encomendero will anchor a four-story, upscale mixed-use project in Valladolid. The Vignette Collection was launched in August 2021 and IHG plans to open more than 100 new properties under the brand in the next 10 years, including a recently-finalized 10th property signing in Zambia, Africa.
W Hotels launches in the Dominican Republic: Marriott International has signed a management agreement with Grupo Puntacana and MAC Hotels to start construction on the 349-room W All-Inclusive Punta Cana in Uvero Alto, an adults-only property in the Dominican Republic. The beachfront, new-build hotel will be the first W Hotels property in the market and one of the first W All-Inclusive resorts worldwide. This is the third project in the country for MAC Hotels, which is developing the hotel. The hotel will break ground in the coming months and is scheduled to open in 2025.
IHG grows footprint in Turkey: IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced several signings and openings across Turkey. The new openings include the 110-room Holiday Inn Trabzon East, the new-build 191-key Crowne Plaza Ankara and the 259-room Crowne Plaza Istanbul Tuzla Viaport Marina. New signings include the 122-room Holiday Inn Express Ankara Airport (expected to open in December), 140-key Crowne Plaza Istanbul Ortakoy Bosphorus (to open in summer 2023) and the 115-room Holiday Inn Erzurum. Presently, Turkey has 28 open hotels and five more in the pipeline.
