Briefs: US performance improves; IHG debuts Vignette Collection in Germany

US PERFORMANCE UPDATE: Hotel performance in the U.S. improved from last week, as per STR’s latest data through Jan. 28.  

  • Occupancy: 56.3% (-0.3%) 
  • ADR: $142.66 (+13.4%) 
  • RevPAR: $80.32 (+13%)  

Dallas had the highest occupancy increase (+10.3% to 69.8%) among the Top 25 Markets in 2019. Tampa saw the highest raises in ADR (+32.5% to $179.72) and RevPAR (+37% to $137.70). Atlanta (-34.5% to $91.86) and San Francisco (-28.2% to $115.29) experienced the steepest RevPAR declines in 2019. 

IHG LAUNCHES VIGNETTE COLLECTION IN GERMANY: IHG Hotels & Resorts has grown its footprint in Germany with the signing of Alte Post in Reit im Winkl, a market debut for the Vignette Collection. Vignette Collection is IHG’s latest luxury brand. Alte Post Vignette Collection, located on the German-Austrian border in southeast Bavaria, will open in 2026 under a franchise agreement with Odyssey Hotel Group and will be developed by DAIxKo Group in a joint venture between Derichs and Konertz project development and Aixact real estate under a lease negotiated by Hotel Affairs Consulting GmbH. The luxury hotel, designed by Stuttgart-based architect firm blocher partners, will have 150 rooms, two restaurants, a bar, underground parking, and a wellness area with fitness studios, saunas, and a pool. IHG will strengthen its luxury presence in the country by launching Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants in 2025 with the opening of Kimpton Frankfurt. IHG currently has 91 hotels open in Germany and 26 more in the pipeline.   

SONESTA ADDED 74 IN 2022: Sonesta International Hotels Corp., based in Newton, Mass., has announced that it will add 74 properties to its franchised portfolio in 2022. The new properties, which total more than 8,500 rooms, expand Sonesta’s global footprint. The company debuted Sonesta Franchising in the U.S. in late 2021 with a platform of franchise services, hotel operations and franchise support. The company hopes to post a strong performance this year with its new awareness advertising campaign “Famous Yet Nameless” and the latest addition of The James, The Royal Sonesta and Sonesta Essential brands as development growth arms.   

GOLDWYNN RESORT OPENS: Goldwynn Resort & Residences has opened in Cable Beach in Nassau, Bahamas. The resort is the only Bahamian member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World. The property features 81 residential-style rooms, including studios, one-, two- and three-bedroom suites and three suites. All studios and suites include full kitchens or kitchenettes, private balconies and views of the ocean or golf course. There is also an open-air restaurant, lounge and pool, plus 12,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor event space. In March, the hotel will open a signature restaurant and spa. 

IHCL SIGNS GINGER IN INDIA: Mumbai-based Indian Hotels Co. Ltd. (IHCL) has signed its second hotel under the Ginger brand in Nagpur, Maharashtra. The brownfield project, a fully fitted lease, will open in April 2024. The 100-key is part of a mixed-use development located on the top three floors of an 11-story building. The hotel will include an all-day dinner and a fitness center. With the addition of this property, IHCL will have 30 hotels across three brands in Maharashtra, including 18 under development.
