Briefs: Mama Shelter opens in Dijon; Hilton grows Japanese portfolio

MAMA SHELTER OPENS IN DIJON: Ennismore has opened Mama Shelter in Dijon in eastern France. The hotel is housed in buildings that were the former health insurance offices, a brutalist structure dating back to the 1960s and listed as a historic French building. The hotel’s black and white carpeting has been designed by Lila Mercier, with two symmetrical carpets at the restaurant designed by Laureline Galliot. The 120-room hotel features a 202-seat restaurant, a 28-seat private cinema, two karaoke bars, four meeting rooms and a petanque court. In collaboration with family-run, independent company Edmond Fallot, Mama Shelter has created its own mustard, which will be available exclusively on the property.

HILTON GROWS JAPANESE PORTFOLIO: Hilton has announced the opening of Hilton Okinawa Miyako Island Resort, marking the first Hilton hotel on Miyako Island in Japan. Situated in the Twuriba area, the resort is adjacent to the Miyako Sunset Beach and offers panoramic views of the Miyako Blue Sea and the Irabu Bridge. The hotel features 329 rooms, including 56 executive rooms and 11 suites with exclusive access to the executive lounge. The hotel also has four restaurants and bars, three outdoor pools, a spa, a gym, a kid’s club, a ballroom spanning more than 200 square meters, several meeting rooms and a rooftop chapel.

U.S. PERFORMANCE IMPROVES: Hotel performance in the U.S. improved from last week and showed better comparisons YOY, according to CoStar’s data through July 22.

  • ADR: $161.65 (+1.5%)
  • RevPAR: $117.91 (+2%)

The U.S. occupancy level was the highest since the week ending August 10, 2019. Among the top 25 Markets, New York City posted the highest YOY increases in occupancy (+11.8% to 90.9%) and RevPAR (+21.2% to $253.61). Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour helped Seattle post the only double-digit ADR gain (+16% to $251.29) and the second-highest RevPAR jump (+20.9% to $222.77). The steepest RevPAR declines were seen in Miami (-12.8% to $130.76) and Orlando (-10.3% to $133.69).

IHG, WEGO TEAM UP: Wego, the online travel marketplace in the Middle East and North Africa regions, has entered into a global partnership with IHG Hotel & Resorts to offer its users more hotel offerings worldwide. The partnership will enable Wego users to search and book 15 of IHG’s 18 brands globally and access more than 4,000 open hotels. IHG will promote its latest offerings on all of Wego’s channels.

KERTEN HOSPITALITY TO OPERATE SERVICED APARTMENTS IN SAUDI ARABIA: Kerten Hospitality will operate the House Residence in Oxagon in Saudi Arabia’s NEOM. This will help the Ireland-based Kerten Hospitality expand in Saudi Arabia. Located in the middle of Oxagon’s first residential community, the upscale 200-unit serviced apartments are expected to open in 2025. Oxagon will reimagine the traditional industrial city to create urban living spaces consisting of offices, recreational and sports facilities and hospitality and retail concepts. Once complete, NEOM will be fully powered by clean energy, utilizing renewable sources like wind, solar and green hydrogen-based energy. In May, Kerten Hospitality announced The Collective in Saudi Arabia, which will bring together several projects from the group across the country with a total investment of SAR1.5 billion ($399.6 million).
