Briefs: IHG’s Hotel Indigo in Riyadh; Selina debuts in Germany

IHG SIGNS HOTEL INDIGO IN RIYADH: IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed a management agreement with Mohammed Bin Salman Nonprofit City for a new Hotel Indigo in a city near the Iqrah area along Wadi Hanifa in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The City is expected to be an incubator for youth and local and international institutions supporting entrepreneurship, innovation and future leaders. The hotel’s basement work has already been completed, and the property is set to open in 2025. Located next to the Al Mishraq Zone, the new-build Hotel Indigo Mohammed Bin Salman Nonprofit City Riyadh will offer 234 rooms and suites and 138 serviced apartments. The hotel will also include four meeting areas, a health club and a pool. IHG currently operates 37 hotels across five brands in Saudi Arabia and has 31 hotels in the development pipeline, which will open in the next three to five years.

SELINA TO GERMANY: The lifestyle and experiential hospitality company Selina Hospitality PLC has opened Selina Berlin Mitte, the brand’s first hotel in Germany. Selina Berlin Mitte features 84 rooms. The units comprise suites, suites plus, hybrid, shared and standard accommodations. The property also includes a rooftop coworking and bar area, a restaurant and bar, 24X7 grab-and-go, a common kitchen, a retail shop, a lending library and an in-house vinyl shop. Selina currently operates on six continents, including in European destinations like the U.K., Portugal, Austria and Greece. Selina aims to open 10-15 hotels this year. 

NOBU ADDS IN SPAIN: Nobu Hospitality has collaborated with Millenium Hospitality Real Estate SOCIMI (MHRE) to launch the Nobu Hotel and Restaurant Sevilla. Scheduled to open this spring, this will be Nobu’s sixth hotel in Spain and the third project between Nobu Hotels and MHRE, following the announcements of properties in Madrid and San Sebastián. Nobu Hotel Sevilla, located in front of City Hall on Plaza San Francisco, offers rooms and suites, a Nobu restaurant with terrace seating, a fitness center and a rooftop pool and dining area. The building comprises two 19th-century residences, a circular reception area with traditional pillars and four guest floors.

MANDARIN ORIENTAL SINGAPORE TO CLOSE: The Mandarin Oriental in Singapore has temporarily closed due to an extensive renovation. The 527-room hotel will reopen in September after a multimillion-dollar renovation. The six-month renovations will include a complete redesign and refit of the property’s interiors, including the grand lobby, rooms and seven dining venues. Design Wilkes, which has worked on Mandarin Oriental properties in Bangkok, Dubai and Tokyo, will oversee the project, and Architect John C Portman has designed the hotel’s architecture. The hotel, which opened in 1987 and is close to the financial district, has a full-service spa, meeting and banqueting space and a bar and lounge with views of Marina Bay. 

PYRAMID GLOBAL’S SUCCESSFUL YEAR: Pyramid Global Hospitality, a Boston-based hotel management company, has announced 59 new properties to its portfolio, six key executive promotions and significant investments in technology for 2022. Formed in 2021 by the merger of three hotel and resort management companies, the company recorded a 40% increase in revenue across the same-store assets with a 60% flow through net income to owners. Pyramid Global aims to add 250 properties to its portfolio.
