Baccarat to launch in the Maldives with hotel, residences

SH Hotels & Resorts, the hospitality management company founded by Starwood Capital Group Chairman and CEO Barry Sternlicht, is set to introduce Baccarat Hotels & Residences in the Maldives.

Slated to open in 2027 in the South Malé Atoll, the luxury property will span five interconnected islands across more than 111 acres.

“We are excited to unveil Baccarat Hotel & Residences Maldives, which fuses the timeless elegance and modern sophistication of the House of Baccarat, the legendary 260-year-old crystal brand, with the Maldives, a location that is synonymous with paradise,” Sternlicht said.

The project will mark the debut of the Baccarat brand in the Maldives. Located about 30 minutes away from the Velana International Airport, the resort will be partially wrapped around its own shallow-water lagoon and reef system.

Designed by global architecture company, HKS, interiors of Baccarat Hotel & Residences Maldives will be designed by 1508 London.

The property will feature more than 50 villas and 53 private residences for sale. The villas will range from one- to three-bedroom units, with each including a private pool. Those looking for a bigger space can opt for six- and seven-bedroom mansions located on a secluded peninsula, along with the luxury eight- and nine-bedroom private islands.

Guests can expect fine dining experiences at the property. Other amenities include a Baccarat-themed crystal garden, an outdoor cinema, art gallery, space for events, a nine-hole golf course, tennis courts and water sports and activities.

A wellness spa will offer a variety of signature treatments for those looking to rejuvenate and relax. The spa will also have plunge pools, dedicated yoga pavilions and a gym.

With a commitment towards sustainability and conservation, the resort will implement several eco-friendly initiatives, including a turtle rehabilitation center.

The property will be owned by Madevco Holdings Ltd.

“Our debut in the Maldives marks a milestone for the Baccarat brand,” said Raul Leal, CEO of SH Hotels & Resorts, the parent company of Baccarat Hotels & Resorts. “We are shaping a new identity in an already remarkable region, and we are confident that this property will define ultimate luxury in the Maldives.”

The first hotel and flagship for the renowned Baccarat crystal brand opened in New York in 2015. The luxury brand has projects under development in Brickell (in Miami), Florence, Riyadh, Dubai and Rome.
