MEXICO Paris-based Accor has opened its 10th hotel in Mexico, Ibis Hermosillo, growing its portfolio in the country to more than 1,400 guestrooms.
Accor has two Novotel-branded hotels open, in Mexico City and Monterrey, and eight Ibis properties in Mexico City, Monterrey (two), Guadalajara, Aguascalientes, Merida, Chihuahua and now Hermosillo.
“In Mexico, as in other countries, we have identified a particular growth potential for economy class hotels in major cities with a high number of business travelers,” says Michael Flaxman, COO of Accor for the Americas.
In the past year, Accor has opened four hotels in Mexico and has three additional hotels under construction as part of its long-term development plan: Ibis Ciudad Juarez Consulado (opening late 2010), Ibis Cancun Centro (opening January), and Ibis San Luis Potosi (opening mid-2011), as well as one more unit under development in Mexico-Tlalnepantla.
Accor’s vision in Mexico is to continue the development of hotels wherever there are opportunities, including accelerating its penetration by developing hotels with partners, under lease and management and franchise.
The company looks to fulfill market demand in terms of economy class hotels with Ibis while selectively developing its midscale and upscale brands of Novotel, Pullman and Sofitel. Accor also intends its Motel 6 budget brand in Mexico.
