What’s Hot: New York hotel debuts new suites

Everybody wants a room with a view. So, for spaces like the new suites at the Mandarin Oriental, New York, it’s a given that design has to measure up to what’s outside the window. The 42 new suites gave designer HOK a chance to play with how to do that.

They found their inspiration in different times of day—sunrise, dusk and nights. That gave them the jumping-off point for the color palettes and materials in each type of suite.  The scarlet, orange and yellow of the Central Park View Suites evoke bright mornings.  Teal forms a backdrop for a tribute to the rush of New York in the Hudson River View Suites.  Premier Central Park View Suites’ amethyst tones speak to the nightlife in the city that never sleeps. Sparkling chandeliers and delicate patterns keep the brand’s Asian DNA intact.

“We were attuned to the property’s Asian heritage and combined a contemporary, upscale design that is residential in feel all while maximizing resplendent views of Central Park and Manhattan. We blended myriad layers, textural elements, patterned wallcoverings and saturated colors, balanced with exquisite furnishings, artistic lighting and highly-curated original artwork to create suites that are luxurious, unexpected and elegant,” said Christina Hart, senior principal, director of hospitality interior design, HOK.
