What’s Hot: Monarch Beach Resort debuts $40M renovation

On June 1, Monarch Beach Resort in Dana Point, California, debuted a US$40 million renovation to the beachfront property.

The redesign includes a new Miraval Life in Balance Spa by Miraval Group; five new dining concepts; renovations to the arrival area and to the resort’s 400 guestrooms; and to its pool area.

The spa features 24 treatment room, a lap pool, spa suites, boutique, Drybar, Deborah Lippmann Nail Salon, and relaxation and tranquility zones. Healthy menus are available at the resort’s restaurants and the new Miraval Spa Café in the spa.

The resort is introducing five new dining concepts led by Executive Chef Collin Thornton, including:

  • AVEO Table + Bar, a Mediterranean restaurant designed by San Francisco-based Puccini Group
  • 33° North, a bar, a living room salon and an outdoor patio with live music
  • Part & Parcel Market, featuring small bites and healthy options that can be taken to go
  • Club 19, an indoor-outdoor gastropub located near the golf course
  • Sombra, a Mexi-Cali family-friendly poolside cantina

Beach house-inspired details in the arrival area include panoramic windows, over-sized seating, wide plank wood floors, and celestial blue and sea-glass green accents.

A coastal palette of cool blues, greens and whites are used in the guestrooms and suites, designed by designed by Los Angeles-based Rodrigo Vargas Design. Each balcony has modern patio furniture; first-floor balconies feature fire pits.

The new outdoor pool area provides an adults-only pool, a family pool with a splash zone and two infinity-edge spas. Private cabanas with built-in music and stocked outdoor mini-bars, increased poolside chaise lounges and an outdoor fire pit surrounded by couches provide gathering areas in the evening. The multi-level design features a second tier dedicated to sunning and lounging.

The resort offers a private-access beach and a Robert Trent Jones-designed golf course.
