The Ames Boston Hotel has completed a US$6 million renovation of its public spaces in a project headed by New York City-based architecture and design firm Glen and Co. Architecture.
Spaces including the lobby, The Library, Ames and Oliver & Oakes rooms and Cultivar restaurant were updated. The 15-story hotel is part of the Curio Collection by Hilton and of the Gemstone Collection by Benchmark.

The new design merges modern and old-world styles. The renovation preserved many original features, including the lobby’s tiled mosaic arched ceiling and a marble staircase that runs from the first floor to the roof. The renovated lobby features new check-in stations and a casual seating area accented by warm-toned wood shelving and trim pieces.

The Library, which employs the mid-century design of the the lobby, serves as communal workspace with a variety of seating arrangements.

With the completion of the Ames and Oliver & Oakes meeting rooms and pre-function vestibule, all on the second floor, the hotel offers 1,700 square feet of new private event space. The Oliver & Oakes rooms are a nod to the city’s Ames family, whose patriarch founded Ames Shovel Works. Together, the rooms create a charming setting inspired by American manufacturing, uniformity and ingenuity.

The on-site restaurant, Cultivar, is run by Chef Mary Dumont, offering locally produced food from places including the restaurant’s hydroponic garden.
The hotel’s 114 rooms have been refreshed with a new color palette.
