Trump Chicago scores with golf stunt

On Monday, U.S. Ryder Cup Captain Davis Love III and European Ryder Cup Captain José María Olazábal teed-off for charity and publicity from the 16th floor terrace at the Trump International Hotel & Tower Chicago.

The stunt served to mark reaching the year-out date of the 2012 Ryder Cup being held at the historic Medinah Country Club near Chicago, and at the same time acted as a fundraising opportunity for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland & Northwest Indiana.

Each captain attempted three 220-yard shots targeting a golf green custom-built on a barge floating on the Chicago River. In conjunction with The PGA of America and the Ryder Cup Magnificent Moments fundraising campaign, the event raised US$100,000 for the charity.

According to a hotel spokesperson, the hotel knew that this event would bring international awareness to the city and were thrilled to have the opportunity to participate and support the city. Next, the hotel will offer a Ryder Cup overnight package for the main event next year that will provide transportation to the event, tickets and more, hoping viewers will remember this stunt and choose to stay with them throughout that week in 2012.
