Standard International is setting its sights on Europe and looking to grow its footprint there, with three new upcoming hotels. The company’s European expansion strategy includes the debut of its extended-stay offering.
Building on the success of The Standard, London (in 2019) and The Standard Ibiza (2022), the independent lifestyle hospitality brand will be opening hotels in Brussels, Lisbon and Dublin.
The parent company of The Standard Hotels, The Standard properties are known for their unique designs and experiences in distinct destinations. Created in 1999, The Standard has opened hotels in marquee locations worldwide, including in New York, Miami, London, the Maldives, Hua Hin, Ibiza and Bangkok.
THE STANDARD, BRUSSELS
Scheduled to open in the first half of 2025, The Standard, Brussels will be located within the ZIN redevelopment project in the Northern Quarter of Brussels, which features a circular construction plan and reuse of materials.
The hotel will be housed in the transformed World Trade Center and offer 200 rooms, of which 20 will The Standard’s first extended-stay units. Drawing inspiration from the adjacent botanical garden, the hotel’s ground floor will have a lobby restaurant and bar. The 29th floor will offer a rooftop garden and brasserie with indoor and outdoor seating and panoramic views.
The Standard’s in-house team, led by Verena Haller, is working along with Belgian architecture and design firms, Jaspers-Eyers Architects and Bernard Dubois Architects, for the hotel.
THE STANDARD, LISBON
Anticipated to welcome guests from late 2025, The Standard, Lisbon will offer 172 rooms and new branded residences. Located in the historic town of Alfama in Lisbon, the hotel building earlier housed a naval hospital which has now been converted into a mixed-use development.
The hotel will have a café with views of Campo de Santa Clara, a lounge situated in the former pharmacy and a signature restaurant. Additional amenities at the hotel include an outdoor pool deck and terrace, a rooftop cocktail bar with panoramic views of the sea and an onsite spa.
The building’s restoration work is being spearheaded by STC Arquitetura. The Standard’s design team has partnered with Jaime Hayon of Hayon Studio to lead the hotel’s creative vision.
THE STANDARD, DUBLIN
Located in the Dublin Arch (formerly Connelly Corner) development, The Standard, Dublin will comprise 200 rooms. Featuring a mixed-use business and residential project, the area is slated to be one of the most connected commercial hubs in Ireland.
