When The Eldon Luxury Suites Hotel in Washington, D.C., opened in 2009, its 50 guestrooms were stocked with a variety of healthy snacks like trail mix and low-sodium pretzels. But after finding those snacks didn’t sell well or at all, the hotel adopted a sweeter snack strategy.
Today, the hotel has replaced many healthy in-room snack items with more indulgent items like chocolate bars, chocolate-covered almonds and chocolate chip cookies. “They sold like hotcakes,” said General Manager Vinh Nguyen. “Gummy bears are our number one-selling snack!
“I believe at the end of the day,” Nguyen added, “when guests are traveling and away from home, they prefer to indulge in some of life’s more innocent guilty pleasures — through the in-room snack bar.”
