Sonder Holdings doubles presence in Florida, adds four new properties

Sonder Holdings Inc. is expanding its footprint in Florida by launching four new properties across the state. This will bring the company’s footprint in Florida to 930 live units across hotel, resort and multi-unit serviced apartment properties.

These four properties will more than double Sonder’s live units across Florida and will join the group’s existing eight properties.

Earlier this year, the San Francisco-based Sonder opened two new properties in Florida — the 78-key Found Miami Beach (located close to the Miami Beach Convention Center) and the 149-key Cirrus (located close to the Walt Disney Resort and parks in Kissimmee).

Sonder will open more properties in the state, including The Deco, a 180-room resort spanning four art deco buildings in Miami’s South Beach. The property was designed by architect Henry Hohauser.

Cirrus Hotel in Kissimmee joined Sonder’s portfolio earlier this year.

These three properties were existing hotels that were added to Sonder’s portfolio, providing them access to Sonder’s operating model and design, merchandising, distribution and revenue management capabilities.

Another property that will join Sonder is Colonnade, an office conversion into 95 serviced apartments on Brickell Avenue in Miami’s financial district.

Colonnade, scheduled to open in 2024, consists of a mid-century building designed by architect Minoro Yamasaki and completed in the 1960s.

The company is exploring more opportunities to expand in Florida, including in Tampa, St. Pete, Sarasota, Clearwater Beach, Naples, Jacksonville, the Florida Keys and the Palm Beaches.

“We’re particularly interested in existing hotel takeovers and large multifamily developments with construction already underway. We offer a variety of deal structures to meet the needs of both owners and lenders in the current economic climate,” said Peter Debs, senior director of Real Estate at Sonder.

Sonder’s other properties in Florida include 17WEST in South Beach, Riverwalk in Fort Lauderdale and Vista Cay in Orlando.

“Each new property brings a unique blend of Sonder’s signature design-forward, tech-enabled guest experience to the Sunshine State, creating moments and memories to last a lifetime. We value the strong collaboration we have with our real estate partners across Florida to offer modern accommodations suited for the needs and habits of today’s travelers,” said Khalil Anjarwalla, area general manager at Sonder.

Sonder currently operates in more than 40 markets across 10 countries and has 18,200 live and contracted units globally. More than a third of Sonder’s over 250 properties have received Tripadvisor 2023 Travelers’ Choice Awards, and two properties have received the Best of the Best listings.
