Shangri-La Group announced the opening of Shangri-La Hongqiao Airport and Traders Hongqiao Airport, a dual-branded development at the city’s Hongqiao transportation hub. The opening marks the Group’s fifth hotel in Shanghai and the global debut of the refreshed Traders brand.
“We are honoured to mark the upcoming 8th China International Import Expo with the opening of our dual-branded hotel in Hongqiao. Through heartfelt Asian hospitality, we aim to create the ‘Finest Service Window’ that reflects Shangri-La Group’s long-term commitment to Shanghai’s economic development and to advancing the national strategy of Yangtze River Delta integration,” said Chris Tung, group chief marketing officer and China chief executive officer, Shangri-La Group.
“This dual-branded hotel represents a significant milestone in our journey of innovation. Through our ‘luxury + efficiency’ dual-engine strategy, we have achieved operational synergy and enhanced the service standards for guest stays at the Hongqiao international hub. At the same time, the refreshed Traders brand, with its focus on technological sophistication and smart efficiency, sets a new benchmark for meeting the evolving needs of today’s business travellers,” said Chris Tung.
The development offers two experiences: Shangri-La luxury and tech-enabled stays by Traders. The hotels are directly connected to Terminal 2 of Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport, the high-speed rail station and the city’s metro network, providing access to downtown Shanghai and cities in the Yangtze River Delta including Suzhou, Hangzhou and Nanjing within an hour.
Shangri-La Hongqiao Airport has 91 rooms and suites with panoramic views of the airport and city. Floor-to-ceiling quadruple-glazed windows and open-plan layouts create a quiet, light-filled environment. Horizon Club privileges include curated breakfasts and evening turndown service.
At the hotel’s signature restaurant, Shangri-La Jiangnan Wok, heritage meets innovation. “Led by Michelin-starred Chef Tiger Yang, with guidance from Area Executive Chinese Chef Joe Hou, the menu reinterprets traditional Jiangnan flavours through nine seasonal flavour profiles,” the release noted. Takeaway bento boxes are available for guests on the move.
Nearly 3,000 square metres of event space next to the National Exhibition and Convention Center provide venues for weddings, conferences and exhibitions. Wedding packages include curated banquet menus.
Traders Hongqiao Airport features 520 rooms with select rooms offering views of aircraft or city expressways. “Express check-in/out system allows guests to complete the process in as little as 15 seconds, linking directly to Shangri-La Circle profiles and delivering room number information to their mobile phones. Departure is equally seamless with contactless check-out and instant e-invoicing,” the release stated.
Smart technology at Traders includes luggage delivery robots and barista-style coffee robots. Meeting spaces can be booked through Shangri-La’s online platform. Curated guest comforts include a seven-choice pillow menu, all-day portable meals and flight delay care packs.
The hotel’s 77 Food Restaurant is a food hall concept featuring regional and international brands, including French croissants from Michelin-starred LE JARDIN de Joël Robuchon, Lanxi-style breakfast at Youbu Xiaoguan and Taiwanese-style braised pork rice from Adelu. The concept is designed for convenience and variety.
