Rocket strikes outside Jordan InterContinental hotel

AQABA, JORDAN A rocket that was apparently targeted at Israel’s Eilat resort area on Monday instead struck outside InterContinental Aqaba hotel, killing a taxi driver and wounding five security guards and construction workers. Israel authorities say the attack was launched by Islamic militants in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula.

As many as five rockets were fired toward Eilat, a town on the Red Sea coast a few miles from Aqaba. There were no casualties or significant damage reported in Eilat.

InterContinental Aqaba General Manager Guzman Muela tells HOTELS that the property and guests survived the attack unscathed. “Following the attack in Aqaba, we can confirm that all guests and hotel staff are unhurt,” Muela says. “A number of windows were broken in the attack, but the rest of the hotel is undamaged, and we remain open.”
