Rani Investment plans US$100m Mozambique resort

SANTA CAROLINA, MOZAMBIQUE Saudi Arabia’s Rani Investment Group is planning to break ground next year on a US$100 million resort on Santa Carolina island, Mozambique.

Also known as Paradise Island, Santa Carolina is among Mozambique’s Bazaruto islands in the Indian Ocean, which form a marine national park.

The resort project, which is to include a hotel with 80 to 100 guestrooms and 25 to 50 residential units, will be operated by Saudi Arabia-based Aujan Group. Construction is expected to start next year, with the resort opening to tourists in 2013.

“The architectural concept for the new hotel is retro, in keeping with the original establishment on the island that was so popular with glamorous jet-set of the ’50s and ’60s,” Rani CEO Kamel Abdallah tells Arab News.
