People on the move: Marriott, Hyatt Regency, Alila

Marriott International appointed Satya Anand president of Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), a division that encompasses over 75 countries and territories. Anand most recently was the company’s chief operations officer, luxury and southern Europe and global design for EMEA. He replaces Liam Brown, who has been appointed group president, U.S. and Canada.

“As a 32-year Marriott veteran, Satya has a remarkable knowledge of the industry and our business, as well as outstanding relationships with associates, guests, owners and franchisees,” said Craig S. Smith, group president, international. “His ability to engage and inspire will serve him well as he takes on this important position.”

Anand will spearhead Marriott’s post-COVID-19 recovery approach across the region’s 998 hotels to deliver enhanced cleanliness and sanitization levels. He will also drive the roll-out of a range of initiatives and campaigns designed to reinvigorate the hospitality industry including deployment of digital technology such as mobile key, mobile check-in and mobile chat, and new Bonvoy initiatives.

Originally from India, Anand joined Marriott in 1988 as a night auditor at the Vienna Marriott Hotel. He went on to hold leadership positions including area vice president roles in western and central Europe, CFO for Europe and board member of the AC Hotels joint venture. Anand holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Bangalore MES College of Commerce; in 1988, he completed his diploma in hotel and tourism management at the International College of Tourism and Management in Semmering, Austria.

Dorchester Collection’s Le Meurice in Paris appointed Amaury Bouhours executive chef at Restaurant le Meurice Alain Ducasse. Bouhours previously was deputy chef at the restaurant. He spent nearly 15 years at Alain Ducasse’s side. He worked with Christophe Saintagne at the Alain Ducasse au Plaza Athénée in Paris, then spent two years at Restaurant Lasserre as deputy chef working under Adrien Trouilloud before accepting the deputy chef position at Restaurant le Meurice Alain Ducasse.

Delta Hotels by Marriott Dallas Southlake, opening late November in Southlake, Texas, named Enam Chowdhury executive chef and director of food and beverage for the Sky Creek Kitchen and Bar. Chowdhury comes to the restaurant with more than 30 years’ experience working in hotels and restaurants in Great Britain, Thailand, South Africa, Italy and the United States. He worked with Dean Fearing for 15 years at The Mansion on Turtle Creek in Dallas before moving on to Rosewood Hotels & Resorts and The Joule in Dallas. He was executive chef at restaurants including The Chophouse on Bankhead in Mount Vernon, Texas, and Los Pinos Ranch Winery in Pittsburg, Texas. Jose Soto will be chef de cuisine at Sky Creek Kitchen and Bar. He most recently was sous chef for Fearing’s Restaurant at The Ritz-Carlton Dallas. Nick Bray is the restaurant and bar manager.

Hotel Wailea, Relais and Châteaux, in Wailea, Hawaii, named Jonathan De Paz executive chef. De Paz has worked at restaurants including The French Laundry in Yountville, California, and Eleven Madison Park and Restaurant Daniel in New York City. At Hotel Wailea, he will lead the culinary team for The Restaurant at Hotel Wailea along with the new Birdcage Bar and Hotel Wailea Cooking School.

Hyatt Regency Aruba Resort Spa and Casino in Palm Beach, Aruba, appointed Denise Florio director of sales, marketing and events. Throughout her 16-year career, Florio has worked with several Hyatt properties and has helped develop sales professionals. Florio worked in sales at Grand Hyatt New York and Andaz 5th Avenue, both in New York City, and at Hyatt Regency Greenwich in Greenwich, Connecticut. Before joining Hyatt Regency Aruba, she worked in sales operations for Hyatt Hotels Corp. as corporate director of learning and development.

Peachtree Hotel Group appointed TeDra George general manager of Cumberland House Knoxville, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, opening in Knoxville, Tennessee this fall. George’s hospitality experience spans hotel management, sales, marketing and lifestyle branding, including roles such as sales director to general manager at various properties.

Nobu Ibiza Bay in Ibiza, Spain, named Edwin Kramer general manager. Kramer joined from Barcelona Edition in Barcelona, Spain, where he led the team as general manager for the property’s launch in 2018. He has played key roles in four hotel openings, including the London Edition in London, England, prior to moving to Barcelona. During his career, he’s held various food and beverage leadership roles for Campbell Gray Hotels, Four Seasons and Hyatt Regency.

Midas Hospitality appointed Mat Meadows general manager of Aloft Milwaukee Downtown in Milwaukee. Prior to joining Midas Hospitality, Meadows, who has nearly 20 years of experience, worked as general manager at another Milwaukee hotel. He also previously served as general manager at hotels in Indiana and Chicago.

Remington Hotels appointed Keith Oltchick senior vice president of acquisitions and development. In this role, Oltchick is responsible for the growth and expansion of Remington Hotel’s third-party platform and supporting clients in acquisitions, management transitions and new build development efforts. Oltchick started his career as a controller for Claris Services Corp., then held senior leadership roles within brands including Hersha Hospitality Trust and Marriott International. He most recently was senior vice president of business development at Pyramid Hotel Group, where he oversaw US$15 billion in individual and portfolio investments for hospitality assets, development projects and debt restructurings.

Jamie Sabatier, former chief executive officer of Two Roads Hospitality, joined other executives in residence at the Fritz Knoebel School of Hospitality Management at the University of Denver’s Daniels College of Business in Denver. Sabatier led Destination Hotels and Resorts through a merger with San Francisco-based Commune Hotels and Resorts, rebranding the company to Two Roads Hospitality in 2016. He eventually oversaw the sale of Two Roads to Hyatt Hotels & Resorts in late 2018. Prior to his time with Two Roads and Destination, Sabatier was a senior executive at Starwood Hotels and Resorts.

The Beeman Hotel in Dallas appointed Corey Stewart director of food and beverage. Stewart has worked with The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Co., Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, and Headington Cos. of Texas. He also served as director of F&B for the Lumen Hotel in Dallas, and most recently was director of F&B at The Historic Queen Mary in Long Beach, California.

Opening in Encinitas, California, in early 2021, Alila Marea Beach Resort Encinitas named Claudette Zepeda executive chef to oversee the culinary team and the signature restaurant, Vaga Restaurant & Bar. Zepeda was executive chef and partner at El Jardín in San Diego. Prior to that, she was chef de cuisine at Bracero in San Diego, and was a James Beard Best Chef West semifinalist in 2019. She competed on Bravo’s “Top Chef” and “Top Chef Mexico.”
