People on the move: Marriott | Choice | Waldorf Astoria

Chesapeake Hospitality announced several promotions while Marriott International named five general managers to launch properties across Australia. Meanwhile, Dream Hotel Group appointed a food and beverage executive. Read on for more appointments and promotions as January draws to a close.

Hilton Santa Barbara Beachfront Resort in Santa Barbara, California, appointed Lani Baird director of sales and marketing. Baird departed the Valley Forge Casino Resort in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, where she was executive director of sales.

Rachel Barrows was named general manager of Aloft Denver International Airport, Aurora, Colorado. Barrows had been general manager for the Residence Inn Denver Stapleton in Denver. 

Monarch Beach Resort in Dana Point, California, named Jacqueline Berry general manager of Miraval Life in Balance Spa. Berry, who has more than 20 years’ experience in the spa and wellness industry, most recently was spa director at Lake Austin Spa Resort in Austin, Texas. 

Chesapeake Hospitality promoted Lisa Carlson to senior vice president of operations from her former role as vice president of operations. The firm also promoted Stephanie Morgan-Harris from regional director of sales and marketing to regional vice president of sales. Previously serving as Chesapeake’s area director of revenue management, Emily Hahn is now regional director of revenue manager. Finally, the company hired John Pasley as vice president of operations, responsible for a portfolio of upper upscale hotels in the Midwest and Northeast region. Pasley formerly was vice president of operations at John Q. Hammons Hotels & Resorts. 

Aruba Marriott Complex in Palm Beach, Aruba, named Karen Chastain general manager, responsible for operations at Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino, Marriott Aruba Surf Club and Marriott Aruba Ocean Club. Chastain most recently was general manager at Fort Lauderdale Marriott Harbor Beach Resort and Spa in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. 

Choice Hotels International promoted Sonia Egyhazy to regional vice president of franchise development for Cambria Hotels. Egyhazy previously served as director of franchise sales for Cambria in the Mid-Atlantic, a role she held since 2015. 

Luma Hotel Times Square in New York City appointed Diane Elliott director of sales. Prior to this position, Elliott was the director of group sales at Royalton Park Avenue, part of Gansevoort Group, and the senior sales manager at The Chatwal in New York City.

JW Marriott Chicago appointed Hassan El Neklawy general manager of the downtown Chicago hotel. El Neklawy, who began his career with Marriott 39 years ago, most recently was general manager of the Renaissance Chicago Downtown. 

Embassy Suites by Hilton Alexandria Old Town and Hilton Garden Inn Alexandria Old Town King St. Metro, both in Alexandria, Virginia, appointed Tristan Harris complex general manager. Harris had been general manager of DoubleTree by Hilton Burlington, Vermont, where he transitioned the hotel from a Sheraton to a DoubleTree by Hilton property. 

Embassy Suites by Hilton Chicago Downtown Magnificent Mile appointed Kathy Heneghan general manager. Previously, Heneghan was hotel manager at Hilton Chicago. 

Mirbeau Hospitality Services tapped Ed Kellogg as general manager of the future Mirbeau Inn & Spa Rhinebeck, slated to open late summer in Rhinebeck, New York. Kellogg most recently headed the business development and operations of two construction management firms in New York’s Hudson Valley. 

Kevin Kennedy became general manager of Courtyard by Marriott Glenwood Springs, Colorado. Kennedy formerly was working in the Roaring Fork Valley in western Colorado. 

Travelle at The Langham in Chicago appointed Danielle Marelli pastry chef. Marelli has been part of the Travelle team since 2014, when she joined as a pastry chef de partie. She was promoted to pastry sous chef.

The Farm at Brush Creek, slated to open this June in Saratoga, Wyoming, named Angus McIntosh executive chef of the concept, which will include a luxury dining restaurant, Brush Creek Brewery, Brush Creek Distillery, Brush Creek Cellar and Tasting Room, The Founders Fault, Medicine Bow Creamery, a bakery and event barn as well as an extensive greenhouse system. McIntosh was executive sous chef at The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado. 

Dream Hotel Group appointed Dimitri Mitropoulos vice president of food and beverage. Mitropoulos hails from TAO Group where he most recently served as director of operations. 

Marriott International appointed five general managers to lead the launch of some of its newest properties across Australia. Damon Page is general manager for W Melbourne in Melbourne, Australia; Stephen Morahan is general manager of The Tasman, a Luxury Collection Hotel; Dario Orsini is general manager of The Ritz-Carlton, Perth; Harry Singh is general manager of Element Melbourne Richmond, Melbourne; and Andrew Wright is general manager at Aloft Perth. 

Hotel Zoe Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco named TJ Pierri as general manager. Prior to joining Hotel Zoe, Pierri was resort manager at Lansdowne Resort and Spa in Leesburg, Virginia.  

The Curtis – A DoubleTree by Hilton in Denver named Lizzie Raudenbush director of sales and marketing. Raudenbush had been director of sales and marketing at the Kimpton Shorebreak Resort in Huntington Beach, California, where she oversaw an extensive renovation that included a restaurant rebranding. 

Celino South Beach, slated to open this spring in Miami, named Michael Ryan general manager and Domingo Velasco director of sales and marketing. Ryan most recently served as general manager at the Belize Ocean Club in Placencia, Belize. Velasco has worked for companies such as Relais & Châteaux and Rosewood Caribbean Resorts.  

AHC+Hospitality appointed Ryan Schmied general manager of AC Hotel Grand Rapids, opening this spring in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan. Schmied most recently was beverage director at Miami-based Whisk Gourmet Food & Catering, responsible for annual beverage sales exceeding US$1 million. 

Denver-based Sage Hospitality promoted Dean Stambules to vice president of acquisitions. Since joining Sage in 2014, Stambules acted as the director of feasibility. 

The Brown Palace Hotel and Spa in Denver named Ann Sutherland Lynch as director of sales and marketing of the adjacent Holiday Inn Express Denver Downtown, part of The Brown Palace hotel complex. Sutherland Lynch most recently was opening director of sales and marketing of The Jacquard Hotel & Rooftop, an Autograph Collection hotel in Denver. 

Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills in Beverly Hills, California, promoted Vanessa Williams to general manager. Williams, whose career includes more than five years of spearheading business development, and sales and marketing campaigns within Hilton’s luxury and lifestyle brands, has served as director of sales and marketing at Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills since before the hotel’s opening in June 2017.
