People on the move: Como, Raffles, Meliá

Como Hotels and Resorts, a luxury hospitality brand based in Singapore, has appointed Doris Goh as VP commercial. In her new role, Goh will be responsible for driving and managing the overall commercial components of Como Hotels and Resorts, bringing the sales and marketing functions together.

With more than 25 years of experience in the hospitality industry, Goh has spearheaded the sales, marketing, and digital innovations at Alila, Asia Pacific, and joins Como Hotels and Resorts from her most recent role as chief marketing officer at Asia Land and Sea, Singapore, a start-up driving sustainable tourism development.

“I am extremely excited to be joining Como Hotels and Resorts at such a pivotal time for the brand, as it enters its 30th anniversary year and celebrates the opening of two new properties,” Goh said. “I look forward to sharing my expertise and passion for travel and sustainability with Como, to help further its reach as one of the world’s leading luxury hospitality brands.”

The Phuket Hotels Association, a non-profit organization based in Thailand, has appointed a new senior leadership team. Bjorn Courage, general manager of the InterContinental Phuket Resort, Thailand, has been named as the association’s president. Sumi Soorian, who most recently worked as development director with the Phuket Hotels Association, has been promoted to executive director.

Sandpiper Hospitality, a Virginia-based hotel management company, has promoted Victor Cruz to vice president of business development. Cruz joined the company team in 2016 and most recently served as the vice president of revenue management.

JLL, a professional services firm headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, has named Senior Managing Director Kevin Davis as the Americas CEO of its Hotels & Hospitality division. Davis joined JLL in 2013 and currently leads the company’s Hotel Investment Banking group.

Juan Pablo Dominguez has joined The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay, California, as the new chef for the oceanfront resort’s signature Conservatory restaurant. Chef Dominguez joins The Conservatory’s culinary team from Solaz, a Luxury Collection Resort, Los Cabos, Mexico. Darren Hills has also joined the The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay team as director of engineering. Previously, he held the same position at a number of luxury properties including Sofitel Washington D.C. and The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Washington, D.C.

Oliver Dudler has been appointed general manager of Raffles Boston Back Bay Hotel & Residences, Boston, Massachusetts, set to open at the end of 2022. Dudler has managed Raffles properties, part of Accor group, around the world for nearly a decade. He most recently served as the interim general manager for Raffles Maldives Meradhoo, Maldives.

The Plaza Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada, has hired Victor Fernandez as associate director of sales and catering. Prior to joining the Plaza, Fernandez worked for 15 years at the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority, Nevada, where he most recently served as national sales manager.

Vu Thi Huong Giang and Rowie Villacencio have stepped up as resort manager and director of administration respectively at Alma Resort, Cam Ranh, Vietnam. Starting her career at Alma as a food and beverage director, Giang was promoted to executive assistant manager of food and beverage last year. Villacencio most recently served as director of HR at Alma.

Hilton has appointed Adam Heffron as the general manager of Conrad Los Angeles, Conrad Hotels & Resorts’ first California property. Heffron joins Conrad Los Angeles, which is scheduled to open in spring 2022, from Waldorf Astoria Park City, Utah, where he served as general manager.

Magdalena Martorell has taken charge of the new Meliá Phuket Mai Khao, Thailand, as general manager. She has worked with Meliá Hotels International for 20 years, most recently opening Meliá Shanghai Parkside, China.

A member of Marriott’s Autograph Collection, Scrub Island Resort, Spa & Marina, Virgin Islands, has appointed Chef Karim Maycock as the new executive chef of the private-island resort. Most recently, he was the executive chef at Mount Cinnamon Resort, St. George’s, Grenada.

Montage Healdsburg, California, has appointed Sarah McIntosh as its new resort manager. She most recently worked as director of rooms at The Maybourne Beverly Hills, California.

Mahmood Merchant and Viral Patel have been appointed to the board of directors of Best Western Hotels & Resorts, headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona. Merchant previously served as a governor with Best Western Hotels & Resorts, and is the president and CEO of Merchant Valley Corp., Roseville, California. Patel is currently the owner and operator of the Best Western Corbin Inn, Kentucky, as well as the chairman of the board for the Corbin Tourism & Convention Commission, Kentucky.

Donohoe Hospitality Services, Bethesda, Maryland, has named Chef Malcolm Mitchell corporate director of restaurants and bars. Prior to joining Donohoe, he was executive chef and owner of The M Chef Group, New York.

Laura Mutterperl has been promoted by Dream Hotel Group, New York City, New York, to the newly created position of chief legal officer. She previously worked at the company as executive vice president and general counsel.

The Stafford London, England, has named Alan Noone as its new executive head concierge. Recognized as UK Concierge of the Year at the Catey Awards in 2019, Noone joins The Stafford London from The Berkeley, London, where he was head concierge for 13 years.

New Castle Hotels & Resorts, Ridgefield, Connecticut, has promoted Rick Norman to general manager of the new Courtyard/Residence Inn by Marriott in Jekyll Island, Georgia. Norman previously was the general manager of the Courtyard/Residence Inn by Marriott in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Chef Murugan Sailappan has joined Four Seasons Hotel Bengaluru at Embassy ONE, India, as executive pastry chef. Previously, he worked at The Westin Mumbai Garden City, India.

Director of Catering Raquel Sharma has returned to the Kimpton Hotel Monaco DC, Washington, D.C., where she previously held the role of director of event sales and marketing for the property and its restaurant, Dirty Habit. Most recently, she served as the director of event sales and marketing for Fish & Fire Food Group, Washington, D.C.

Siyam World, Maldives, has appointed Abdulla Thamheed as general manager. Thamheed takes on this new role alongside his responsibilities as group general manager of Sun Siyam Resorts and general manager of Sun Siyam Iru Fushi, Maldives.

Cheryl Twiss has joined The Chanler at Cliff Walk, Newport, Rhode Island, as director of sales. Prior to her role at The Chanler, Twiss was director of community relations for Greenwich Farms Warwick, Rhode Island.

NorthPointe Hospitality Management Co., Atlanta, Georgia, has hired Holly White to helm The Partridge Inn, Augusta, Georgia, as general manager. White has spent the past eight years in managerial positions with NorthPointe Hospitality, most recently serving as area director of sales for the company’s Southeast properties.

Watermark Lodging Trust, a non-traded real estate investment trust based in Chicago, Illinois, has announced a series of changes among its senior management team. Samuel Zinsmaster has been promoted to chief operating officer after having served as head of asset management. Brendan Medzigian has been named chief investment officer following his leadership as head of transactions at Watermark. Matthew Miller, the company’s vice president and controller, has been promoted to chief accounting officer.
