Thompson heads to the capital: Hyatt lifestyle brand Thompson has opened its first property in Washington, D.C., in the Navy Yard neighborhood, paired with two F&B concepts headed by Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group.
The 225-room, 11-story new-build hotel is part of a 42-acre mixed-use waterfront development, near Capitol Hill and other D.C. monuments and museums. It’s designed as a “sophisticated lifestyle hotel with a refined edge,” with architecture by New York-based Studios Architecture and interiors by Parts and Labor Design.
Interiors were inspired by the Thompson brand’s signature mid-century modern aesthetic and incorporate industrial patterns and textures found in the neighborhood’s historic naval structures. Rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows with views of the Anacostia River and Nationals Park. Signature restaurant Maialino Mare focuses on seafood-based pastas and seasonal, locally sourced dishes with an Italian wine list and rustic desserts. The Thompson Bar Room is adjacent. Anchovy Social, the hotel’s rooftop bar, opens in coming weeks and offers seasonal cocktails and shareable bites along with views of the city.
Opening rates start at US$359 per night at the hotel, which is operated by Pivot Hotels & Resorts, the lifestyle and luxury operating vertical of Davidson Hotels & Resorts.

Radisson adds in Turkey: Radisson Blu, Radisson Hotel Group’s upper-upscale brand, opened the Radisson Blu Hotel, Sakarya, in northwestern Turkey. It’s the 16th of the brand and the 25th Radisson operating or under development in the country. The new-build, 139-room hotel is in one of Turkey’s industrial hubs, close to the Black Sea and Istanbul’s International Airport, with a history dating to the Byzantine era and natural attractions such as hot springs. The hotel has gym and fitness areas, including an indoor pool, Turkish hammam, steam bath, sauna and personal care programs. Its F&B includes international Allegro Restaurant and the Blu Bar. Published rates start at US$75.
Dorsett introduces new brand in KL: J-Hotel by Dorsett, the first boutique hotel under Hong Kong-based Dorsett Hospitality International’s D.Collection brand, soft-opened in mid-December. The 154-room, 12-floor hotel is in the city’s Golden Triangle’s shopping, dining, entertainment and commercial center. Guestrooms take a minimalist approach, decorated in white offset by hues of blue or cool gray, matched with timber tiles. The Jam & Juice café offers breakfast and casual dining. Published rates start at US$31.
