Rocco Forte Hotels to debut in Shanghai: A Rocco Forte hotel will open in Shanghai in 2018, constituting the group’s first move into the Asia Pacific market. Rocco Forte Hotels will partner with Longhua International to be part of the Longhua International Aviation Service Centre, a new urban complex in Shanghai’s Xuhui Riverside area known as West Bund. The hotel, which is yet to be named, will take over the top 15 floors of the tallest building of the development and will include around 280 rooms and suites.
Meliá to enter Myanmar: The 400-room Meliá Yangon, scheduled to open in 2016, will be a new-build hotel in downtown Yangon next to Inya Lake.
St. Regis to debut in India: St. Regis Mumbai is scheduled to open in the third quarter. Owned by Pallazzio Hotels & Leisure Ltd., the Palladium Hotel is currently undergoing an extensive rebranding and will soon fly the St. Regis flag.

Mumford passes away: George Mumford, founder and chairman emeritus of Mumford Co., died May 30 in his sleep. Born in 1929, Mumford founded The Mumford Co. in 1978. In his career at Mumford Co., he was involved in the sale of more than 300 hotel properties valued in excess of US$600 million.
Hilton acquires California hotel: Hilton Worldwide announced the acquisition of the 224-room Cypress Hotel located in California’s Silicon Valley. The property has been renamed Juniper Hotel Cupertino, Curio Collection by Hilton.
ISHC CapEx 2014 published: The International Society of Hospitality Consultants, in conjunction with the Hotel Asset Managers Association, has published “ISHC CapEx 2014: A Study of Capital Expenditures in the Hotel Industry.” The research is distributed by the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute.

Ascend expands Bluegreen partnership: Choice Hotels International announced it is adding six Bluegreen Vacation Club Resorts to its Ascend Hotel Collection brand. This brings the total number of Bluegreen Vacation properties integrated into the Ascend Hotel Collection to 28.
