Hormel Film Festival is playing at a screen near you
Hormel Foods this week is presenting six “powerful and hope-filled short films” in a virtual film festival running through May 15. Each film profiles “uncommon heroes ranging in age from 12 to 101 who show us that it is possible to thrive against incredible odds,” the company said in a news release.
“Given the current challenging times we’re facing, we want to share these inspiring stories of some really amazing people and their mission to make the world a better place,” said Wendy Watkins, vice president of corporate communications at Hormel Foods.
The films premiere live on YouTube each day at Noon Central Time, followed by a live discussion between the filmmakers and some of the films’ subjects. The event also spotlights nonprofit organizations with a connection to the stories and the subjects of the films. View the schedule and learn more at www.HormelFilmFestival.com.
FSIS on ante-mortem inspection, COVID-19 changes to labels
USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service has issued a new directive to inspection personnel that provides instructions on how to inspect livestock before slaughter and the methods used to verify that livestock offered for slaughter have received ante-mortem inspection. The agency reissued the directive to incorporate instructions for verifying the handling of non-ambulatory disabled veal calves, removing the requirement that ante-mortem inspection must be performed in holding pens, and updating the disposition instructions for recumbent cattle. Also, FSIS has updated the directive to provide a definition for “promptly” as it pertains to euthanasia. To access the document, click here.
The agency also has extended the deadline for its Temporary Allowances for Labels Going to Retail” to July 26, 2020. FSIS in March had announced it would temporarily allow the diversion of foodservice-labeled products to retail. The initial allowance was set to expire later this month.
