Brakebush unveils new chicken products

Brakebush has introduced fully cooked Chicken Breakfast Sausage Patties for foodservice and institutions, sized to fit on biscuits and English muffins. The patty has 40% less fat than pork sausage with significantly fewer calories, the company said in a news release. The ingredient list is only chicken, salt, spices and sugar. Another new Brakebush product is the Quarter Pound Flame Grilled Chicken Burger, a slightly larger version of its original 3.25 oz. Flame Grilled Chicken Burger. The new burger is sized for a larger bun.


US Foods enters into retail partnerships

US Foods Holding Corp. has established 20 retail distribution partnerships with national grocery store chains, wholesale grocers and consumer packaged goods brands to better manage deliveries in the era of COVID-19. The Rosemont, Ill.-based company said it also added more than 700 temporary associates to help in company warehouses where they select products for shipping. The retail partners include Kroger Co., Albertsons Cos., Homeland grocery stores and C&S Wholesale Grocers. 


Dr. Charles Beard research award nominations sought

USPOULTRY and the USPOULTRY Foundation are accepting nominations for the Dr. Charles Beard Research Excellence Award through July 1. The goal of the award is to recognize outstanding completed research projects, funded by USPOULTRY or the foundation, that have made a significant positive impact on the poultry industry. The nominee may be recognized for multiple completed USPOULTRY research projects focused on the same subject area. To submit a nomination, send a letter to Dr. Denise Heard (dheard@uspoultry.org), director of research. Include the nominee’s name, a brief description of the nominee’s research accomplishments and the impact of the research.


Oxfam presses Pilgrim’s Pride on human rights

Oxfam America has filed a shareholder proposal for consideration at Pilgrim’s Pride’s April 29 annual meeting, calling on the company to conduct a “Human Rights Due Diligence” (HRDD) study. Oxfam is asking shareholders to request that the company’s board of directors prepare a report on “Pilgrim’s’ human rights due diligence process to assess, identify, prevent and mitigate actual and potential adverse human rights impacts,” according to the proposal.
