CHRISTCHURCH, NEW ZEALAND The 26-story Hotel Grand Chancellor in earthquake-stricken Christchurch city center is tilting, and officials say the building is on the verge of collapse.
The hotel has moved a couple of meters horizontally, New Zealand Herald reports. All emergency and search and rescue teams have been evacuated from a two-block radius around the Grand Chancellor, which is one of the city’s tallest buildings.
The Grand Chancellor is managed by Singapore-based Grand Hotels International.
Three nearby Millennium & Copthorne Hotels also sustained significant damage due to Monday’s 6.3-magnitude earthquake, although the severity has not yet been determined.
