Citing a decline in traditional room-service requests over the past several years, the New York Hilton Midtown has announced it will discontinue room service in August, eliminating 55 jobs.
The nearly 2,000-room hotel is adding a new F&B outlet, Herb n’ Kitchen, as an alternative to standard in-room dining. The previously announced concept will offer gourmet items such as flatbread pizzas and sandwiches as well as Illy coffee in a retail setting.
“This offering is currently unique to New York Hilton Midtown, and we have no current plans to roll out the initiative more broadly,” a Hilton spokesman told HOTELS in an email. “Each property is unique, and any decisions to eliminate room service would be made on a property-by-property basis if we determine that it would allow us to meet the needs of our guests more effectively.”
