A new program at Maroma Resort and Spa in Riviera Maya, Mexico, aims to incorporate local culture into guests’ daily life at the resort.
Maroma’s Mexican Immersion includes a Mayan temazcal, a therapeutic cleansing ritual carried out at dusk using ancient traditions, chants and meditation.
The resort’s La Cantina restaurant offers twice-weekly Noches de Cantina with a menu of homestyle dishes such as Fideo seco (dry noodles with chipotle, avocado and fresh cheese) and cordero rostizado (roasted suckling lamb) served with a range of tequilas, Mezcal and homebrewed beers and accompanied by Mexican music and dancing.
Guests also can wear a bracelet indicating to the resort team they wish to communicate in Spanish only. Each room includes Spanish-English dictionaries and a cheat sheet of helpful phrases.
