Meriwether Companies, a private real estate investment and development company, has acquired Morgan Run Club & Resort in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. The sale price was not disclosed.
Spread over 200 acres in Southern California, the property is located amid hills and is about five miles from the Pacific Ocean and Del Mar Racetrack. The property offers several outdoor fitness amenities as well as boutique accommodations.
Morgan Run features 76 hotel rooms, a restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating and 17,000 square feet of private event space. The property also offers a range of amenities. These include a 27-hole championship golf course featuring its east, north and south course layouts, short game practice facilities, 320-yard driving range, 10 tennis hard courts, four pickleball courts, a heated outdoor pool, gym and recreational events.

“We recognized an incredible opportunity to shape the future of what we consider to be a true diamond in the rough, a classic Southern California golf escape with a rich history dating back to the 1960s,” said David Likins, partner, Meriwether Companies. “We believe there is a gap in the market for a more casual, vibrant and community-oriented club that aligns with the north coastal San Diego market.”
Boulder, Colo.-based Meriwether Companies will invest over $25 million in renovations to reimagine and enhance the property, including its racquet sports, golf, dining and hotel units. Design and planning are already in progress, with work expected to finish in the next two to three years.
Construction for the renovations will be conducted in phases to allow the property to stay open during the process.
Enhancements include upgrades to the common spaces in the banquet, dining and fitness areas in the clubhouse, transforming the spa into a communal recovery space, irrigation of the golf course, bunkering and re-grassing, adding a pool and casual dining venue, renovation of the racquet sports area (which includes the tennis, pickleball and sports courts) and improvement of the pool.
“Racquet sports are having an exciting moment, and we’re looking forward to transforming this sector into a key pillar of the club,” said Graham Culp, partner, Meriwether Companies. “Guests and members can look forward to a new world-class racquet facility and programming that rivals the best in California.”
The hotel will undergo a complete revitalization, with upscale interior and exterior room refurbishments and new management and operations.
The full renovation is expected to be completed by late 2025.
Meriwether Companies has other private clubs and sports and wellness resorts in its portfolio. The company’s existing projects include the Coral Mountain La Quinta, Griffin Club Los Angeles, Aspen Club, Monument near Powder Mountain in Utah and Parlor in Kansas City and Oklahoma City.
