The 2020 Hotelier of the World award winners are both dedicated hoteliers who discovered their passion for the business early – one as a 22-year-old newlywed in South Africa, running a hotel furnished with help from wedding present money, the other working summers as a teen at a family hotel in Italy.
Today, their journeys intersect: Beatrice Tollman, founder and president of Red Carnation Hotels, is the 2020 Corporate Hotelier of the World, and Danilo Zucchetti, managing director of Villa d’Este Hotels, is 2020 Independent Hotelier of the World.

Corporate Hotelier of the World: Beatrice Tollman
Independent Hotelier of the World: Danilo Zucchetti
Tollman has been headquartered in London since the 1980s but has returned, in a way, to her roots – in addition to properties in South Africa, Red Carnation owns the hotel where she and her future husband had their first date.
Zucchetti is managing director at Villa d’Este Hotels, based on the shores of Lake Como, Italy, where he is a careful, thoughtful curator of timeless elegance on a property combining Renaissance history and modern appeal.
And don’t forget to register for HOTELS 2020 Hotelier of the World web event on November 18 at 9 a.m. CST/3 p.m. GMT.
The Wall Street Journal is the proud sponsor of the 2020 Hotelier of the World awards.
