Libyan ownership requires Corinthia Hotel London to get opening approval

LONDON Economic sanctions against the Libya government have forced Corinthia Hotel London, which is part-owned by the beleaguered state, to seek approval from the UK government to open.

The 294-key property, scheduled to open later this month, has received assurances from the UK government that it will be allowed to operate normally despite it being 35% owned by the state-controlled Libyan Arab Foreign Investment Co., which is subject to sanctions by the European Union and the United States.

International Hotel Investments and Nakheel Hotels comprise the rest of the hotel’s ownership group.

The hotel had been slated for a soft opening last weekend, although the delay is unrelated to the economic sanctions, The Guardian reports.
