IHG opens luxury resort in Vietnam’s Ha Long Bay

IHG Hotels & Resorts has opened InterContinental Halong Bay Resort in Ha Long Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Overlooking mountain islands and the surrounding sea, the resort has 275 rooms, suites and villas, six restaurants, a children’s activity centre, a spa and ballrooms and meeting spaces. The architecture, led by Wimberly, Allison, Tong & Goo (WATG), draws from local heritage and folklore and highlights Ha Long Bay’s land, sea, islands and inlets. Interiors by P49Design reference Vietnam’s traditional bamboo basket boats in the lobby, while bedrooms reflect the colors of the landscape.

“InterContinental has been hosting guests for almost 80 years in every corner of the world. We are incredibly proud to extend this ethos to the shores of Ha Long Bay, an area famed for some of Vietnam’s best beaches. InterContinental Halong Bay Resort is a place where the serenity of the sea meets with Vietnamese hospitality. Our entire guest experience is inspired by the modern luxury traveller – a guest who is culturally curious and drawn to the world around them. Here in Halong, we invite guests to be immersed in the familiarities of InterContinental whilst learning from this enchanting part of Vietnam,” said Jesper Larsen, general manager, InterContinental Halong Bay Resort.

For culinary offerings, the Roku & Star Bar on the 10th floor will serve Japanese cuisine and feature a Sake Library and a bamboo installation inspired by the descending dragon legend of Ha Long. Other venues are Marina Kitchen, a seafood speciality restaurant serving modern coastal cuisine; La Baguette, a French-Vietnamese bistro; Del Mar, a poolside lounge bar inspired by the floating village of Cửa Vạn; and Vue, the lobby lounge space offering afternoon tea and cocktails.

The Hidden Lagoon spa provides treatments in collaboration with Margaret Dabbs London and Sodashi. Recreational amenities include beach volleyball, outdoor archery and three swimming pools. Planet Trekkers, the kids’ club, offers activities for children aged 4 to 12, including conical hat painting, canvas bag decorating, candle making and face painting. The Game Room offers cinema, internet gaming, billiards, darts, foosball and air hockey. Event spaces include Tonkin Ballroom and Cat Ba Ballroom.

The resort is part of InterContinental’s global portfolio of over 231 hotels, including seven in Vietnam, under IHG Hotels & Resorts’ luxury and lifestyle division.
