Mentors are a key part of any successful hospitality career.
With this in mind, HOTELS asked the 2012 recipients of HOTELS’ Hotelier of the World awards who their mentors were during their HOTELS Magazine cover shoot.
Tom Hewitt, chairman of Interstate Hotels and Resorts, Arlington, Virginia, cited his experience with Dick Barger at Sheraton Corp. Hewitt began his career in hospitality with a job at the reception desk at the local Sheraton Biltmore in Providence, Rhode Island, while attending college and returned to Sheraton after serving the U.S. Army post-graduation.
Georg Rafael, who heads Rafael Group, Monaco, mentioned the owner of the Hotel Römerbad in Badenweiler, Germany, as an early mentor.
