Hot Openings: Istanbul hotel reinvents Art Deco

Two of the top design buzzwords today might just be “glamorous” and “Art Deco.” The 118-key St. Regis Istanbul (the flag’s first hotel in Turkey) is a case study for the marriage of those two trends. Architect Emre Arolat used the strong lines of the Art Deco era for a high-impact façade that hints at the elegant design within.

Beyond serving as a showcase for local artists, the styling focuses on using luxe materials — like metallic tones and elegantly striped marbling in the bathrooms — to craft a modern spin on Art Deco cool. Deep blue accents add interest to paler shades in the guestrooms. A modern spin on the King Cole mural in the original St. Regis accents the bar.

The hotel is also home to the Iridium Spa, Wolfgang Puck’s Spago restaurant, the St. Regis Brasserie and the Petite “O” Bar. It offers a Bentley Suite and the Astor Ballroom function space as well.

“With the opening of The St. Regis Istanbul, we are delighted to strengthen Starwood’s presence in Turkey, one of our key markets for growth and a burgeoning destination for luxury travellers,” said Michael Wale, president of Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Europe, Africa and Middle East.
