Hot Openings: History infuses Ritz-Carlton, Budapest

Housed within a protected historic building on Elizabeth Square with views over St. Stephens Basilica, The Ritz-Carlton, Budapest has opened as the brand’s first hotel in Hungary.

Constructed in 1914 as the headquarters for an Italian insurance company, the building has just re-opened as a luxury hotel with 170 rooms and 30 suites. The Ritz-Carlton Club Level is situated on the 8th and 9th floors of the property, allowing guests an elevated experience.

Many original architectural details have been retained, including elegant statues on the exterior walls, and interiors, completed by the G.A Design Budapest office (headed up by Paul Woods), are inspired by the cool colors and swirling water of the Danube River.

For F&B, Deak Street Kitchen provides a relaxed environment and serves a variety of Hungarian-inspired dishes created with local seasonal ingredients. Freshly grilled meat and fish are served alongside a selection of indigenous Hungarian wines and beers.

The Kupola Lounge, situated beneath the building’s iconic stained glass cupula and grand crystal chandelier, offers a leisurely farmer’s market breakfast or light lunch overlooking the hotel lobby. The contemporary bar combines sleek finishes with the building’s uncovered original columns.

The property’s facilities include a ballroom, situated on the lower ground floor with seating for 180 people, adjacent to five flexible meeting rooms.

Finally, The Ritz-Carlton Spa and Fitness Centre is flooded with natural light on the top of the building and an indoor pool and three treatment rooms, and sits alongside a professionally equipped, 24/7 fitness center.
