Few nascent brands have generated buzz quite like Starwood Capital Group’s 1 Hotels brand. The lifestyle offer ticks most of the industry’s boxes — a unique angle (in this case, an eco-driven outlook), chic design and a vibe that plays well with the aesthetics and tastes of today’s travelers.
The brand’s first property, the 426-key 1 Hotel South Beach (two more hotels, both in New York City, will open later in 2015) packages all those elements into a sleekly modern design that’s both sustainable and standout.
Meyer Davis Studio’s vision for the hotel takes clean lines and a cool palette to accent the airy vibe throughout the guestrooms and public spaces. NGNY’s Nikola Gradinski put a more urban spin on the look for the rooftop area.

The hotel also offers health-oriented dining options (including Tom Colicchio’s Miami debut), a fitness center and spa (which will open later this year) and four pools.
“It’s simple — we have an impact on nature, and nature has an impact on us,” said Barry Sternlicht, chairman and CEO, Starwood Capital Group, the parent of SH Group, a lifestyle hotel brand management company that will manage the hotels. “I decided that if I was ever going to create another hotel, I wanted it to be more than a brand; I wanted it to be a cause. People are already living like this and are now looking for ways to travel in the same fashion.”
