Hot Openings: Chedi Andermatt hits the slopes

The Chedi Andermatt, the first General Hotel Management Ltd. property in Switzerland, opened late last year in the Alps.

Jean-Michel Gathy, chief designer and advisor for Denniston International Architects & Planners Ltd, designed the 104-key property with a blend of Alpine and Asian styles.

Executive Chef Mansour Memarian oversses the food and beverage offerings at the hotel, which include The Restaurant, with four open kitchens serving Western and Asian cuisine; the Japanese restaurant by Hide Yamamoto; The Wine & Cigar Library; The Lobby; The Courtyard; The Pool Bar; The Bar and Living Room; and The Cheese Cellar, with local specialities from the Urner Alps and San Gottardo.

The 25,830-sq-ft (2,400-sq-m) spa includes indoor and outdoor pools as well as a Finnish sauna, hammam, fitness facilities, and 10 spa suites.

The property is part of the Andermatt Swiss Alps project, a year-round integrated destination. At an altitude of 4,725 ft (1,440 m) between the peaks of Gemmstock and Naetschen, the hotel is a short walk from Andermatt’s old town. By train, it is 90 minutes from the hotel to Zurich or Lucerne and two hours to Milan.
