Hot Openings: Best Western Premier enters Haiti

The Best Western Premier Hotel and Spa Pétion-Ville is now open.

The seven-story property overlooks Port-Au-Prince Bay and offers 106 guestrooms.

The project, quarterbacked by Chris and Stanley Handel, came to a halt for almost three years following the earthquake, which struck only three months after Best Western had bought into the site.

Studio 11 Design set out to create a clean and neutral space that focuses on local art. Local art consultant Pascale Theard and her team at 1804 Design helped source pieces by local artisans; the hotel features 580 local crafts and 42 decorative art pieces made by an estimated 100-plus artists and artisans. Materials used in the art include recycled tires, oil barrels, forks, spoons, fans, metal, t-shirts, and a local gourd.

The result is a mid-century, modern aesthetic in a palette of coastal neutrals to offset the colorful art.

Le Michel restaurant serves international fare. The property also offers a whiskey bar and a lobby bar.

The Best Western Premier Hotel and Spa Pétion-Ville also has meeting and event space, an outdoor pool with a terrace, a fitness center and a spa. The hotel describes itself as the first full-service corporate, Haitian-owned hotel with a U.S. chain affiliation.
