Hilton expands Mexico footprint, signs two Tapestry Collection hotels in Baja California

Hilton has expanded its footprint in Mexico with the signing of two Tapestry Collection by Hilton hotels in Baja California. The hospitality company has signed two franchise agreements for the conversions to the Tapestry Collection brand.

The 90-room Perla La Paz, Tapestry Collection and the 70-room Tropicana Los Cabos, Tapestry Collection will mark the brand’s debut in Baja California, Mexico.

These two signings will help Hilton further grow its portfolio in Mexico, where it currently has 90 open hotels and 30 more in the pipeline. These two conversions will further Hilton’s plan of introducing more brands in the market, the company said in a release.

“The Pacific Coast of Mexico represents an integral role in Hilton’s larger organic growth strategy across this diverse destination as we look to bolster our presence with world-class brands and add to our portfolio of award-winning hotels in Baja California,” said Mario Carbone, managing director, development, Mexico and Central America, Hilton.

The hotel was originally built in 1940 and recently underwent a $10-million renovation. Located in La Paz, the hotel will join the Tapestry Collection in early 2024.

The hotel will continue to showcase the classic La Paz style, with a nod to its Art Deco heritage and modernization of the city.

Perla La Paz has a pastel pink façade with outdoor terraces. Renovations included redesigned rooms surrounding the courtyard. The hotel has a full-service restaurant and a terrace on the ground floor. The second floor houses the signature lounge, El Mechudo, a gym and a spa. The third floor has a swimming pool, bar and the Madre Perla lounge.

Located around 500 feet from Plaza Mijares in San Jose del Cabo, the Tropicana will convert and rebrand as a Tapestry Collection-branded hotel in early 2024.

The hotel captures the Mexican colonial style and offers two suites featuring authentic Mexican artwork. The property’s focal point is a floor-to-ceiling glass bar within the on-site restaurant, where guests can dine in at the open-air cafĂ©, second-level veranda or outside patio.

Onirius Hospitality Advisors served as the principal advisor for the development and launch of both properties.

“We are excited to partner with Hilton to convert and introduce these two storied properties for guests traveling to Baja California,” said Onirius Hospitality Advisors’ Luis Ruiz.

Ruiz served as the principal advisor for the development and launch of the hotels.

Currently, Tapestry Collection by Hilton has a global portfolio of more than 115 hotels, with more than 100 under development.

Across the Caribbean and Latin America, Hilton has a portfolio of over 210 hotels, with a development pipeline of 115 hotels in various stages of design and construction.
