Hard Rock International opened its second property in Malaysia, Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast, in late September – of course, with musical performances and the “signature” smashing of guitars.
Guitars are everywhere at the resort – guests can rent one for their stay (which they can play with headphones on out of respect for the neighbors) or just enjoy a 10-meter-tall version, visible throughout the property, that incorporates floral elements for a local touch.

The Hard Rock is one of several hotels at Desaru Coast, a 3,900-acre destination resort targeting families, including a Westin, Anantara and One&Only; it also has one of the world’s largest water parks, two golf clubs and several miles of beachfront.
The hotel, like its sister properties, has a music memorabilia collection from artists like Elvis Presley, The Rolling Stones, Madonna, Lady Gaga and Rihanna, along with the microphone stand and jacket of Malaysian music star Amy Search, who was part of opening festivities.
The 365 rooms include suites with balconies; there is also indoor event space and several F&B outlets including Sessions, an all-day contemporary restaurant; poolside grill The Elephant and The Butterfly, with Latin American-inspired cuisine; Constant Grind, a coffee shop with light bites; or GMT+8, the lobby bar with daily live music.
The hotel had its soft opening about a year ago, and according to the company, all rooms were operational starting in July. ADR from July through September 2019 is about MYR554 (US$133.23), it says.
