LAWRENCEVILLE, GEORGIA A local developer has proposed a 23-story Ferris wheel-shaped building that would house one of the first new-build Radisson Blu hotels in the United States.
The US$250 million project would be located in suburban Atlanta, between the Mall of Georgia and a minor league baseball stadium. Developer Richard Beaton, head of Escapes International Inc., is under contract to purchase a 421-acre plot that would host the unusual structure. The proposed 400-key hotel would share the site with an 800-capacity Mardi Gras-themed restaurant and a mock riverboat.
Architect Jim Culpepper of CMMI Inc. modeled his design on Radisson Blu Hotel Frankfurt, Germany, which opened in 2005.
The project requires approval from the Gwinnett County Planning and Development Department.
