IHG Hotels & Resorts has introduced its Vignette Collection brand to Africa with the addition of Fairview Hotel Nairobi. With this addition, Vignette Collection continues its expansion, following its launch three years ago, and has now reached 27 open hotels globally with a further 41 in the pipeline.
“At its heart, Fairview Hotel Nairobi has always been a place where people come together, a living garden sanctuary in the middle of the city. Joining Vignette Collection allows us to honour our history while elevating the guest experience through thoughtful design, intuitive service and purpose-led hospitality. This next chapter is about celebrating who we are: proudly Kenyan, rich in heritage, and committed to creating unforgettable stays that feel deeply personal,” said Kaliq Essop, general manager, Fairview Hotel Nairobi, Vignette Collection.
The 99-room property, situated in the Upper Hill area of Nairobi, is locally known as a garden hotel within an urban setting. The hotel features early 20th-century architecture highlighted by bluestone elements and botanical gardens. Design details include arched windows, wrought-iron features, spiral staircases and interior courtyards. Facilities include 99 renovated rooms and suites, an outdoor swimming pool, a fitness centre and nine meeting and event spaces. Among these spaces is the Pango Wine Cellar, located underground and designed for smaller gatherings.

Dining venues at the hotel include three restaurants named Mukutan, Pwani and Giuseppe. Additional social spaces include Atrium Coffee in the lobby and the Nthome Fireplace lounge. These venues form part of the hotel’s food and beverage offering available to guests and visitors.
Fairview Hotel Nairobi also participates in the Vignette Collection framework of Memorable Rituals and A Means For Good. As part of its ritual offering, guests are invited to take part in SimuStories, an interactive experience that uses a vintage lobby telephone to share stories from the hotel’s history. For its community initiative, the hotel partners with the Kenya National Library Service to support literacy through book donations and reading programs, including participation in the Mashujaa wa Kusoma competition.
“Welcoming Fairview Hotel Nairobi to Vignette Collection is a seminal moment – the continent’s official launch of Vignette Collection. A destination that is renowned for its rich history and unique landscapes, with an ever-increasing demand for authenticity and character in the luxury space. This is what Vignette Collection is all about – it is a brand that champions individuality, intrigue, and purpose, giving beloved boutique hotels like Fairview the freedom to retain their distinctive character while benefiting from IHG’s global scale and loyalty program. This launch is a powerful statement of IHG’s commitment and Vignette Collection’s ambitious expansion plans in the region,” said Haitham Mattar, managing director India, Middle East and Africa at IHG Hotels & Resorts.
