Dusit expands in India’s secondary cities

Thailand’s Dusit International is expanding its presence in India by introducing its portfolio of luxury and upper-midscale brands in several Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, with plans to enter major metros in a later phase.

The company recently opened dusitD2 Fagu, Shimla, and signed three properties in Karnataka: Devarana Sakleshpur – A Dusit Retreat, and two Dusit Princess Hotels & Resorts. Now, it will bring the Dusit Princess brand to Raipur, Bhiwadi, Lonavala and Kolkata, and launch two Dusit Collection properties in Kasol and Manali.

Dusit is targeting cities where demand for upscale hospitality is growing but options remain limited. The company is focusing on markets where it can offer Thai-inspired service and destination-focused properties. “India represents an exceptional growth opportunity for Dusit – across major metros and particularly in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, where premium hospitality options remain limited despite strong demand,” said Siradej Donavanik, vice president of development (global), Dusit International.

Each new Dusit Princess hotel will range from 120 to 220 rooms. The Kasol and Manali hotels under the Dusit Collection brand will each have 40 rooms. The company’s strategy includes long-term partnerships with Indian developers and focuses on delivering business and leisure accommodations in cities experiencing rising domestic tourism and improved transportation infrastructure.

“The country’s tourism industry is evolving rapidly, with increasing demand for high-quality, experience-driven stays. By blending our unique brand of Thai-inspired gracious hospitality with wellness-led experiences and destination-driven properties, we aim to create exceptional stays that resonate deeply with Indian travelers,” added Donavanik.

The company plans to grow its footprint with a mix of leisure retreats and city hotels, emphasizing wellness offerings and training through Dusit Hospitality Education. Future projects will also support the Tree of Life initiative, which follows 31 operational standards tied to selected United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The brand will expand with measured growth, looking first at underserved cities before moving into major markets. Locations under consideration include New Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru.

Dusit’s India expansion is part of a wider growth strategy that includes Indonesia, Vietnam, China and Japan. The company aims to add more than 100 properties worldwide over the next five years, with a focus on local partnerships and regional demand.
