When Hilton launched its upscale Tapestry Collection by Hilton during ALIS on January 23, it referred to seven signed letters of intent, but didn’t offer any more specifics other than locations. On Wednesday, details of the first Tapestry emerged in a report by the Richmond Times-Dispatch in Virginia, which said Chester, Virginia-based Shamin Hotels acquired from Southerly Hotels the 173-room Crowne Plaza Hampton Marina Hotel in downtown Hampton, Virginia, with plans to covert the property to Tapestry Collection by Hilton.
Terms of the deal, which closed late Tuesday, were not disclosed, but Shamin President and CEO Neil Amin told the Times-Dispatch that being one of the first in the country to be approved as a Tapestry-branded hotel speaks to the strength of the location.
The Crowne Plaza already has some distinctive features, he said, including a couple of restaurants overlooking the Hampton marina and a rooftop pool. A Bull Island Brewing Co. brewery is also onsite and the hotel has about 11,000 square feet of event space.
Shamin’s team is in the process of redesigning guest rooms and public space of the property — to be renamed the Hampton Marina Hotel.
