IHG to manage Crowne Plaza Lumbini in Nepal

IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed a management agreement with Lumbini Heritage Limited for a Crowne Plaza hotel in Lumbini, Nepal. The hotel is set to open in 2026 and will be the second Crowne Plaza development in the country. The company states that the signing supports the brand’s presence in South Asia.

The property will be in Lumbini, a city recognized as a pilgrimage location. The hotel will be located about four kilometers from the main pilgrimage site and 18 kilometers from Gautam Buddha Airport. The company notes that the site will serve travelers arriving for spiritual visits and guests visiting the area for meetings and events.

Crowne Plaza Lumbini will have 147 rooms. The planned room count includes 137 rooms and 10 suites. The hotel will include meeting and event spaces with a banquet hall for a range of functions.

IHG noted that the location is positioned to serve visitors from nearby Indian states including Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Company information indicates that international hotel options in the area remain limited, and the hotel is expected to provide an entry into a market with a demand for branded lodging.

We are delighted to strengthen our presence in Nepal with the signing of Crowne Plaza Lumbini. Lumbini holds immense spiritual and cultural significance, and bringing the Crowne Plaza brand here reaffirms our commitment to expanding world-class hospitality across high-potential destinations. With modern design, versatile spaces, and premium facilities, we are confident Crowne Plaza Lumbini will become a preferred choice for domestic and international travellers alike,” said Sudeep Jain, managing director, South West Asia, IHG Hotels & Resorts. “We are proud to collaborate with IHG Hotels & Resorts to bring a Crowne Plaza hotel to Lumbini. The city holds immense cultural and spiritual value, attracting travellers from around the world. With IHG’s global expertise and the strength of the Crowne Plaza brand, we are confident that the hotel will redefine hospitality standards in the region while creating a premium welcoming space for both business and leisure guests.”

The Crowne Plaza brand has positioned itself to serve both business and leisure guests. Brand information notes that design and amenities are structured to support work needs and travel schedules. The company describes the Plaza Workspace concept as a model for shared areas and outlines room layouts intended for working and rest.

IHG states that it has an existing presence in South West Asia and continues to add properties in the region across multiple segments.
