Corinthia Rome has opened on Piazza del Parlamento marking the Italian debut of Corinthia Hotels. Set within a historic neoclassical palazzo once associated with the Bank of Italy the project restores the building while preserving its original architectural features including 1920s frescoes.
The 9,700-square-meter, 60-room property features panoramic penthouses and a subterranean spa located inside the building’s former vault. The hotel also marks the first Roman address for Italian chef Carlo Cracco.
Located in the Campo Marzio neighborhood near the Pantheon the Roman Forum and the Spanish Steps, the hotel is owned by Reuben Brothers and operated by Corinthia Hotels. The building was designed by Pio Piacentini and Marcello Piacentini and constructed between 1913 and 1921.
The restoration led by GA Design returned the structure to its original proportions uncovering mosaics stuccoes painted ceilings and marble detailing.
The hotel’s art collection curated by VISTO Art Consultancy features works by Italian artists including Elisa Grezzani Francesca Longhini Alice Faloretti and Maddalena Negrone displayed across the property.
A notable space is the former Council Chamber overlooking Palazzo Montecitorio now converted into the Theodoli Heritage Suite. The room preserves frescoes by Giulio Bargellini and a ceiling by Guglielmo Janni depicting an allegorical map of Italian currency.
Dining venues curated by Carlo Cracco include Viride overlooking the interior garden Piazzetta and Ocra Bar.
“Corinthia Rome was created to be experienced,” said Danilo Zucchetti, managing director. “We invite the world to visit and fill this rediscovered building with vibrant energy. The authentic connection with Rome and its inhabitants is what matters most to us and is what makes the experience truly memorable both for our guests from all over the world and for the Romans themselves.”
